Get your glow on any time of year without the sun. There are so many products out there but my favorites are the L’Oreal line of self tanners. Several hours before application, shower, use a scrub, L’Oreal makes one but any will do the job. Remove any unwanted hair because you will not want to use any hair removers for several days after your application if you can refrain! After your shower moisturize any dry patches because these areas will grab the product and develop a darker color. Usually ankles, tops of feet, elbows, wrists and knees. Massage a small amount of moisturizer into any dry areas you have. Wait at least an hour for the product to absorb completely. Now you are ready to apply self tanner. Choose your product, gels these usually allow you to see where you have applied product for more even coverage, tinted creams and ones with temporary bronzer also allow you to see where and how you applied product. Sprays are a little trickier but my favorite. I suggest standing naked in your shower for spray application. Hold the can about 6 inches away and move in smooth passes over your entire body. Let dry and voila! Glowing skin, reapply daily to maintain or deepen your color. Gels, creams and such require gloves or you will have color on the palms of your hands for sure. By cheap disposable latex gloves and work with a little product at a time. Start mid thigh, go light over the knee and ankle area, be sure to get front, back and sides. On arms start around your shoulder and spread down and all around your arms, easy on the elbows, your back can be difficult, this is where a spray makes it easier! For your face use a product specifically for your face. Apply very sparingly and work out to the sides of your face, neck and hairline so you leave no tell tale signs of your application! The easiest product out there is L’Oreal tanning wipes for faces(also make a product for bodies). I personally use the spray on my body and the wipe on my face and then after applying to my face I wipe the used wipe over my entire body for better blending in case of any uneven product deposits. It is also a great idea to buy some self tanner remover scrub or pads, just in case. I have a friend that applied tanner to her husbands balding head and was grateful she had the remover. Also I have not found any products that are completely odor free, but the odor does subside as it dries and develops. It will take several hours to see your depth of color so wait before applying more. If you do need instant then go with the self tanner with the bronzer, the bronzer adds instant color while the product develops! The one caution I will give you is to dry completely. Even with the best applications sometimes you will notice color run off. For instance, the neck of your shirt of top of your socks. I live in a warm climate and play tennis, occasionally my tanner will stain the top of my ankle socks just from sweating and humidity. For the best results apply your tanner the day/night before you plan to be out with your tan. Even two days in advance and maintain it quickly with the wipes to keep your glow going.
